I do not know many people who do not want to be happy. But can we really be happy?
Dealing with a shaky economy, listening to and reading terrible news, putting up with certain people, facing trials, and so many other things cause us to question whether or not we can be happy.
Well, we can. But we have to understand that there is more to it than “happiness.” The emotion of happiness comes and goes, but what is deeper is joy. Joy is not dependent on circumstances. It comes from your heart, and from my own life and experiences, I can tell you that it only comes from a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. (Feel free to contact us if you’d like to learn more about that.)
We can, though, do some things to help happiness become a reality.
Be friendly. That is not always easy, but it is something that we all want And though some people are notoriously negative, most people give back what they are given – friendliness. You will feel happier when you are friendly, and others will be friendly leading to more happiness. On the other hand, selfishness will lead to selfishness returned and walls built between you.
Think positively. We see what we look for. If you look for the negative in others, that is what you will see. If you look for the positive, that is what you will see. Even when things happen that are not “happy,” realize that they can make you a stronger person. How we view things, how we think plays a large part in shaping our lives.
These things take focus and determination. They will not happen unless you make them happen.
Yes, you can be happy. No, you will not always be happy. You can, however, have joy, and having joy enables happiness to be so much better.
