Is fear crippling you?
People use lots of different words to describe it: fear, worry, anxiety, concern, nervousness… Whatever word you choose (and I’ll just stick to “fear” for the sake of this conversation), fear seems rampant.
Money – it’s an issue. Costs rise at extraordinary rates. Incomes don’t seem t keep up. It seems like more people don’t want to work, which puts greater constraints on managers and owners. And we don’t know what to do.
Politics – it’s an issue. I remember when you could disagree with someone and not attack them personally. I remember when you could vote the way you wanted and not be labeled for it. I remember when more of our leaders seemed respectable (though I know not all were). And we don’t know what to do.
Sickness – it’s an issue. We’ve always worried about certain diseases. But the year 2000 brought that to new levels. Regardless of your thoughts about it (and how people acted), our safe bubble burst. And we don’t know what to do about it.
Courtesy – it’s an issue. Open your favorite social media app, and you’ll find SO many people griping about other people. We used to have to do that in person, but now we can do it on our phones in our own homes. People have become meaner. Kindness seems like a lost art. And we don’t know what to do.
There are other isues, of course. And with them all – we don’t know what to do.
Fear has always been around. It’s a normal reaction to an abnormal situation. but as it becomes more prevalent, we need to learn to deal with it.
Whether you think fear is a physical issue, mental issue, or both, it’s best to go to the basics.
Naturally, severe fear needs to be addressed by a professional. Get help – just like you would if you broke your arm. There is nothing wrong with you for having fear, but not dealing with it can be wrong. Check with your regular doctor if you don’t know where to turn because they want to help.
But also don’t forget to take care of you! Get your mind on something else for a while (a hobby, a book, etc.). Get rest (you can’t combat it if you are drained). Eat food that is good for you (including taking all the nutrients your body needs). Don’t forget your spirit (those of us who are Christians believe that you are body, mind, and soul – and all need to be healthy),.
Fear is unavoidable. But I’m hoping fear is not overcoming you!
