The Effect of What You Eat and Your Happiness

Food is fuel, and it affects how you feel.  The type of food we eat either helps or hurts us.  We need to consider how we fuel our bodies if we want to feel our best.

In my studies I have read a lot of great information that has aided me and many others.  I hope you will gain insight into your own eating habits.

Fats are considered bad even though many fats are important to our health.  We need healthy fats because our brains need them – like omega-3 fatty acids.  Those improve mood and happiness by allowing our nerves to communicate more efficiently, so we need to include foods like walnuts, pumpkin seeds, and fish oil.

Anthocyanins are also important to aid brain function, and berries are an excellent source.  Kiwi, oranges, and raw peppers provide an excellent source of Vitamin C which helps with stress.  Leafy greens aid in folic acid intake, and dark chocolate boosts your mood.  Dates and bananas positively boost serotonin levels which also benefits you.

On the other hand, there are certain things that can dampen happiness.  Sugar gives you a quick surge of energy, but it leads to a crash, and it negatively affects your immune system.  Coffee can increase worry, but there are some types that can boost your alertness and energy (reach out if you would like to know what I drink – that truly helps).  Other items like wheat and alcohol also can negatively affect your mood.

Food should be fuel for you.  Though you can and should enjoy what you eat, we must be careful about the way we fuel our bodies.  Your eating patterns (and supplements) can play a big role in your happiness.
